About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- support and lead the delivery of traffic engineering projects for public infrastructure and private development clients.
- primary responsibility for producing high quality design documents, coordinating with senior staff, and mentoring junior team members.
- manages and executes traffic engineering assignments under the direction of a Senior Traffic Engineer.
- prepares technical reports, and helps manage project timelines and budgets.
- contribute to the development and use of Traffic Division standards, templates, and design procedures.
- support proposal efforts by providing project specific technical input.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil, Electrical, or Traffic Engineering in California is preferred.
- Three or more years of experience preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic signals, lighting, ramp metering, transportation electrical systems, signing, pavement delineation, and construction stage traffic handling.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver assigned work under an agreed budget and schedule with limited supervision.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical work and collaborate within project teams.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation for traffic design and plan production.
- Working knowledge of Synchro and SimTraffic, VISUAL, and AutoTurn, or interest and aptitude to become proficient in these tools.
- Ability to interpret and apply agency standards and guidelines related to traffic signals, lighting, signing, pavement delineation, and work zone traffic control.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, constructible plans, specifications, and estimates.
