About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform paraprofessional accounting and fiscal control functions under direct supervision
- Balance and reconcile accounting records, statements, journals, ledgers, and reports
- Collect fees or revenues, disburse payments, and post transactions to appropriate accounts
- Compile and maintain records and files
- Analyze financial reports to assess compliance, as needed
- Apply GAAP guidelines, as needed
- Compile and prepare standard accounting reports
- Monitor department budgets or expenditures and identify budget variances
- Perform routine accounting, clerical, billing, and/or claims processing duties for assigned accounts
- Respond to inquiries and solve routine accounting problems
- Prepare requested materials for financial data or records audits
- Process or record accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, invoices, and requisitions in a ledger or computer system
- Provide information or interpretation to banks, auditors, vendors, and governmental entities
- Verify billing information, track account activity, bill consumers, and resolve billing inquiries
- Receive additional training to gain full proficiency and experience in all areas
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree in a business curriculum or related field from an accredited college or university, OR high school diploma or GED and two years of accounting and/or fiscal control experience
- Minimum two years of job-related accounting or fiscal experience, or one year as an Accounting Technician Trainee (FIT019) or equivalent position
- Knowledge or experience in accounts payable and receivable, payroll, invoices, requisitions, billing, budgeting, or fiscal control functions
- Ability to balance and reconcile accounting records and prepare accounting reports
- Ability to monitor budgets and identify variances
- Ability to apply GAAP guidelines, where applicable
- Subject to a reference check and criminal background check, where applicable
