About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Manage and continuously improve the Regional Environment and Natural Heritage Grant project
Ensure efficient funding delivery and strong conservation outcomes
Deliver regional conservation and biosecurity projects protecting and enhancing Auckland’s biodiversity
Build and maintain relationships with mana whenua, council teams, and community groups
Support implementation of the Regional Pest Management Plan, including surveillance, compliance, incursion response, and direct delivery where required
Monitor and report on project outcomes
Undertake quality assurance and implement identified improvements
Respond to conservation and biosecurity-related requests
Work with technical specialists where required
Collaborate within the Environmental Services Regional Delivery virtual team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience delivering conservation, biodiversity, or biosecurity projects
Sound understanding of environmental management practices
Demonstrated project management experience
Ability to coordinate competing priorities and deliver successful outcomes
Strong relationship-building skills
Experience working collaboratively with mana whenua, communities, stakeholders, and internal teams
Experience in the conservation, biodiversity, or biosecurity sector, ideally 5+ years
Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience
Full, clean NZ driver’s licence
Experience managing environmental funding, grants, or community-based conservation programmes is advantageous
Knowledge of the Regional Pest Management Plan and relevant biosecurity legislation is advantageous
Ability to hold, or obtain, an Instrument of Appointment under the Biosecurity Act and Resource Management Act is advantageous
Successful applicants must complete qualification checks and relevant pre-employment checks
Safety-sensitive role requiring pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
Police vetting required under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014
Appointment subject to a satisfactory police check
