About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage and continuously improve the Regional Environment and Natural Heritage Grant project
  • Ensure efficient funding delivery and strong conservation outcomes
  • Deliver regional conservation and biosecurity projects protecting and enhancing Auckland’s biodiversity
  • Build and maintain relationships with mana whenua, council teams, and community groups
  • Support implementation of the Regional Pest Management Plan, including surveillance, compliance, incursion response, and direct delivery where required
  • Monitor and report on project outcomes
  • Undertake quality assurance and implement identified improvements
  • Respond to conservation and biosecurity-related requests
  • Work with technical specialists where required
  • Collaborate within the Environmental Services Regional Delivery virtual team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience delivering conservation, biodiversity, or biosecurity projects
  • Sound understanding of environmental management practices
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Ability to coordinate competing priorities and deliver successful outcomes
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Experience working collaboratively with mana whenua, communities, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Experience in the conservation, biodiversity, or biosecurity sector, ideally 5+ years
  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Full, clean NZ driver’s licence
  • Experience managing environmental funding, grants, or community-based conservation programmes is advantageous
  • Knowledge of the Regional Pest Management Plan and relevant biosecurity legislation is advantageous
  • Ability to hold, or obtain, an Instrument of Appointment under the Biosecurity Act and Resource Management Act is advantageous
  • Successful applicants must complete qualification checks and relevant pre-employment checks
  • Safety-sensitive role requiring pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Police vetting required under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014
  • Appointment subject to a satisfactory police check
