Key responsibilities & impact
  • Help shape the future of the electric grid.
  • Evaluate the transmission system, identify future needs, and develop solutions that support reliability, compliance, and economic efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, regional partners like MISO, and industry stakeholders to translate technical insights into meaningful system plans.
  • Perform transmission planning studies to evaluate system performance and future needs.
  • Build, validate, and troubleshoot system models.
  • Apply FERC, NERC, and MISO standards to planning activities.
  • Define study methodologies, scenarios, and system drivers.
  • Develop and recommend cost-effective, reliable transmission solutions.
  • Partner cross-functionally to align on system needs and priorities.
  • Prepare clear, defensible technical recommendations and reports.
  • Support regulatory filings, stakeholder discussions, and planning documentation.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong understanding of power systems, including 3-phase AC theory and transmission operations
  • Experience with power flow analysis and system modeling
  • Ability to interpret and apply industry standards (FERC, NERC, MISO)
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable insights
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Mathematics, or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience (utility or power systems experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with transmission system modeling tools, such as PROMOD
  • Understanding of electric transmission systems and planning concepts
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus
