About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance on airbridges, cranes, vehicle ramps, pumps, and associated infrastructure
  • Provide support and mentorship to Semi-Skilled Engineers and Apprentices
  • Undertake work across the candidate’s trade and other disciplines or contractors when appropriately trained or capable
  • Carry out pre-emptive and reactive maintenance to keep port assets and infrastructure operational
  • Respond to preventative inspection and servicing requirements
  • Report to the Team Leader
  • Participate in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support
  • Work a 39-hour week with standard hours Monday–Thursday 7:30am–4:00pm and Friday 7:30am–3:00pm

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Time served with an engineering qualification
  • Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on Mobile Harbour Cranes and airbridges
  • Capable of fault-finding in electrical or mechanical plant and equipment
  • Understanding of schematics
  • Confident working at height or around water
  • Flexible to work call-out requirements and participate in a call-out roster
  • Solid understanding of engineering/maintenance in the port industry
  • Knowledge of diesel-powered generator sets
  • Familiarity with Siemens PLC units
  • Multi-skilled experience across a range of industrial facilities
  • Experience of COMPEX
  • Solid understanding of hydraulic systems, including working from schematics
  • Willingness to undergo random substance-abuse screening
  • Medical required before starting
  • Successful candidates subject to BPSS pre-employment screening
