About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supporting the Coxswain in the safe navigation and operation of pilot launches
  • Maintaining exceptional lookout and situational awareness at all times
  • Ensuring the safe embarkation and disembarkation of Pilots and passengers
  • Responding to on-board and shoreside emergencies as directed
  • Providing accurate weather and sea‑state reports to VTS
  • Maintaining launch logs, welfare checks and participating in emergency drills
  • Keeping the vessel clean, safe, well‑equipped and inspection ready

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A cool head under pressure and razor‑sharp decision‑making skills
  • Excellent communication, strong self‑motivation, and the ability to work effectively as part of a small, close‑knit team
  • Experience in maritime or port operations, or Armed Forces service in a small craft is advantageous — but not essential
  • A genuine passion for safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement, with the drive to support a 24/7 operational service
