About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Supporting the Coxswain in the safe navigation and operation of pilot launches
Maintaining exceptional lookout and situational awareness at all times
Ensuring the safe embarkation and disembarkation of Pilots and passengers
Responding to on-board and shoreside emergencies as directed
Providing accurate weather and sea‑state reports to VTS
Maintaining launch logs, welfare checks and participating in emergency drills
Keeping the vessel clean, safe, well‑equipped and inspection ready

Requirements

What you’ll need

A cool head under pressure and razor‑sharp decision‑making skills
Excellent communication, strong self‑motivation, and the ability to work effectively as part of a small, close‑knit team
Experience in maritime or port operations, or Armed Forces service in a small craft is advantageous — but not essential
A genuine passion for safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement, with the drive to support a 24/7 operational service
