About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and test optical imaging systems for biometric identification systems
  • Analyze and specify production tolerances
  • Communicate technical specifications with customers and suppliers globally
  • Identify, order, and test samples of COTS components
  • Provide technical and expert support and contribute to project planning
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software development teams on measurement methods, programming, optical/electrical/mechanical design, sensor selection, and illumination
  • Contribute to product development and research projects
  • Support industrialization and manufacturing engineering when bringing designs to production
  • Liaise with and supervise external suppliers on technical subjects
  • Prototype and test optical imaging and illumination designs
  • Optimize and troubleshoot performance testing, validation, and production processes
  • Troubleshoot optical issues in manufacturing processes
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive technical reports
  • Provide expert advice to other optical engineers and multidisciplinary teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor or Master degree in applied physics, optical design, optics, mechanical engineering, precision mechanics, or a relevant discipline
  • Past experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of geometrical optics and physics
  • Knowledge of Zemax optical design software and its macro language for design and tolerancing
  • Working experience with optical sensors such as CMOS and CCD
  • Experience with semiconductor illumination, including LEDs and laser diodes
  • Hands-on experience designing, assembling, and testing optical breadboards, brassboards, and prototypes
  • Ability to provide expert advice and liaise on technical matters with teams, customers, and subcontractors
  • Ability to create clear and comprehensive technical reports
  • Ability to communicate and liaise with customers, external suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Compliance with relevant HID Global policies and procedures concerning Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems
  • Travel and fieldwork, including possible international travel
  • Must possess or be able to acquire a valid passport
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which hired
