About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently lead the development, implementation, and administration of County-wide occupational safety and health (OSHA/VOSH) policies and programs
- Manage the County’s Safety Committee meetings and coordinating the activity of other officials responsible for safety programs at the agency level
- Educate and communicate policy direction and technical guidance to County agencies on safety matters
- Conduct and guide regular compliance audits and safety inspections of County facilities, equipment, and vehicles
- Ensure accuracy of OSHA logs, analyze accident trends to identify hazards, and monitor emerging safety trends to strengthen safety performance
- Maintain safety training manuals and lead the Vehicle Review Incident Committee (VRIC)
- Administer the County-wide Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Driver Policy programs
- Lead efforts to comply with environmental regulations and develop measures addressing ergonomics, air quality, and other workplace health and safety factors
- Coordinate with safety vendors, procure safety supplies, equipment, and materials to support Safety and Occupational Health program operations
- Serve as County-wide subject matter expert, including during critical events like collective bargaining negotiations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, or similar field such as Safety Management or Industrial Hygiene
- Considerable experience in risk management, workers' compensation programs, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or other related fields
- Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the use of pivot tables, charts, and graphics as well as experience using Power BI reports
- Experience with technical research and proficiency in written and verbal communications
- Experience with coaching and demonstrated ability to help others understand complex technical issues
