About the role
- Design, implement, operate, and maintain geospatial databases and data storage solutions.
- Monitor database performance, capacity, and availability to ensure optimal system functionality.
- Configure and manage geodatabases, including schema design, data models, and metadata structures.
- Support data integration, ingestion, and transformation across geospatial systems.
- Implement database security, access controls, and data protection measures.
- Collaborate with system, software, and security teams to configure hardware and software environments.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation for database maintenance, monitoring, and optimization.
- Support backup, recovery, redundancy, and disaster recovery processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, performance bottlenecks, and data inconsistencies.
- Maintain documentation for database architecture, configurations, and processes.
- Ensure compliance with DHS standards, data policies, and system requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of experience managing and maintaining geospatial or database systems.
- Experience designing, implementing, and managing geodatabases.
- Experience with database management systems (DBMS) and data architecture.
- Experience monitoring database performance and implementing optimization strategies.
- Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data workflows.
- Strong understanding of database security, access controls, and data protection.
- Experience with scripting or automation for database maintenance (e.g., Python, SQL).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across technical teams and stakeholders.
