About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Reporting to the Data Privacy Lead, play a key role in supporting the University’s data protection function within the Legal team
- Work closely with the Data Protection Officer and Data Privacy Lead to manage a varied and busy caseload, providing practical data protection advice
- Ensure the University meets its statutory and regulatory obligations
- Handle and respond to data subject requests, including subject access requests and erasure requests, ensuring they are managed accurately, consistently, and within required timeframes
- Maintain and update the University’s data protection registers
- Support the effective governance of personal data across the organisation
- Collaborate with colleagues across the University to support compliance, reduce risk, and promote best practice in data privacy
Requirements
What you’ll need- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong and clear written communication skills
- Self-motivated with initiative and a strong drive to succeed
- Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret and assess information
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage own workload effectively
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to identify data flows, map information, and assess risk
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Good understanding of UK GDPR and awareness of emerging AI technologies and their impact on data protection
- CIPPS qualification is desirable
- AiGP qualification is desirable
- Studying towards a law degree is desirable
- Previous employment experience in a governance role is desirable
- Previous employment experience in data privacy or risk management is desirable
- Experience of attending meetings and taking detailed notes in order to diarise/prioritise action points is desirable
- Experience of working in a fast paced office environment is desirable
- Experience of risk, auditing, compliance is desirable
