About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Reporting to the Data Privacy Lead, play a key role in supporting the University’s data protection function within the Legal team
Work closely with the Data Protection Officer and Data Privacy Lead to manage a varied and busy caseload, providing practical data protection advice
Ensure the University meets its statutory and regulatory obligations
Handle and respond to data subject requests, including subject access requests and erasure requests, ensuring they are managed accurately, consistently, and within required timeframes
Maintain and update the University’s data protection registers
Support the effective governance of personal data across the organisation
Collaborate with colleagues across the University to support compliance, reduce risk, and promote best practice in data privacy

Requirements

What you’ll need

Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong and clear written communication skills
Self-motivated with initiative and a strong drive to succeed
Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret and assess information
Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage own workload effectively
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to identify data flows, map information, and assess risk
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Good understanding of UK GDPR and awareness of emerging AI technologies and their impact on data protection
CIPPS qualification is desirable
AiGP qualification is desirable
Studying towards a law degree is desirable
Previous employment experience in a governance role is desirable
Previous employment experience in data privacy or risk management is desirable
Experience of attending meetings and taking detailed notes in order to diarise/prioritise action points is desirable
Experience of working in a fast paced office environment is desirable
Experience of risk, auditing, compliance is desirable
