About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Reporting to the Data Privacy Lead, play a key role in supporting the University’s data protection function within the Legal team
  • Work closely with the Data Protection Officer and Data Privacy Lead to manage a varied and busy caseload, providing practical data protection advice
  • Ensure the University meets its statutory and regulatory obligations
  • Handle and respond to data subject requests, including subject access requests and erasure requests, ensuring they are managed accurately, consistently, and within required timeframes
  • Maintain and update the University’s data protection registers
  • Support the effective governance of personal data across the organisation
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the University to support compliance, reduce risk, and promote best practice in data privacy

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong and clear written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with initiative and a strong drive to succeed
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret and assess information
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage own workload effectively
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to identify data flows, map information, and assess risk
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Good understanding of UK GDPR and awareness of emerging AI technologies and their impact on data protection
  • CIPPS qualification is desirable
  • AiGP qualification is desirable
  • Studying towards a law degree is desirable
  • Previous employment experience in a governance role is desirable
  • Previous employment experience in data privacy or risk management is desirable
  • Experience of attending meetings and taking detailed notes in order to diarise/prioritise action points is desirable
  • Experience of working in a fast paced office environment is desirable
  • Experience of risk, auditing, compliance is desirable
