About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Umbrella and Excess Liability accounts to drive profitability and growth
  • Assess risks, including inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to Umbrella and Excess Liability
  • Own accounts, negotiating participation, pricing, and terms and conditions
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top- and bottom-line targets
  • Negotiate price and terms and conditions with producers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, clients, and agents
  • Serve as specialized technical expertise/lead for Unsupported Umbrella & Excess Liability
  • Ensure accurate policy documentation is issued to producers or by producers
  • Establish and maintain electronic or paper files for each risk and transaction
  • Pursue new business acquisition and strong renewal retention within the assigned territory
  • Manage complex referrals and re-underwrite complex business as appropriate
  • Participate in cross-regional activities and collaboration with Middle Market Package, Excess Construction, and Excess National Accounts
  • Analyze performance against benchmarks, market operations, business needs, and customer needs
  • Design, develop, and implement consistent, robust policy wordings
  • Manage the policy administration lifecycle, including information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, and cancellation
  • Manage multiple accounts, opportunities, and processes to meet deadlines and maintain market positioning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of experience underwriting profitable business in Umbrella & Excess
  • Recognized relationships with brokers at peer group level and well established within the marketplace
  • Specialized understanding of regional/local insurance markets and competitor landscape, including global elements
  • Good understanding of legal and regulatory framework
  • Ability to assess risk exposures and natural hazards relevant to Umbrella & Excess Liability
  • Ability to analyze performance against benchmarks and understand market, business, and customer needs
  • Ability to design, develop, and implement consistent, robust policy wordings
  • Robust understanding of the policy administration lifecycle, including information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, and cancellation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to persuade and motivate others without executive authority
  • Ability to absorb, analyze, and draw conclusions from information and data
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts, opportunities, and processes to meet deadlines
  • Degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration preferred
  • Completion of professional insurance qualification preferred
