About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Underwrite and maintain Healthcare Medical Malpractice new business and renewal accounts
- Develop underwriting solutions, determine insurability, calculate appropriate premium, and thoroughly document files
- Prepare quotations and bind business while assessing risk and reaching premium goals
- Monitor submissions, quote and bind ratios, and renewal retentions to sustain profitability and meet growth objectives
- Develop and maintain relationships with wholesalers, retailers, and other distribution channels
- Drive opportunities aligned with underwriting appetite and communicate underwriting decisions
- Develop and share industry knowledge, including competitor products, offerings, and the excess and surplus lines market
- Recommend and support process, procedure, and practice improvements
- Analyze historical performance using productivity and analytical tools to identify improvement opportunities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Knowledge of healthcare line of business and medical malpractice liability insurance principles
- Understanding of liability insurance policy wording, terms, and conditions
- Proven history of assessing risk and making sound underwriting decisions
- Established broker relationships with wholesalers and retailers
- Skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and negotiation
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills
- Ability to work well in a team-based environment
- Demonstrated leadership, people management, and developmental skills
- At least 7 years of underwriting experience focused on medical malpractice and umbrella liability coverages
- Experience with healthcare facilities including long-term care, hospitals, surgery centers, clinics, labs, and home health care
- 4-year BA/BS degree, ideally in Business, Economics, or Management
- Experience managing delegated authority programs is a plus
- CPCU, RPLU, or other insurance coursework recommended
