About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead end-to-end strategy for complex coverage issues and litigation matters, including investigation, exposure assessment, reserve adequacy, and resolution planning
- Drive litigation management with internal and external counsel, including mediations and trials as needed; negotiate complex settlements that balance risk and business objectives
- Prepare executive-level reporting and lead discussions with senior leadership, customers, and key stakeholders on high-profile matters, trends, and emerging case law
- Serve as a technical leader—staying current on commercial insurance laws and regulations and ensuring alignment with company guidelines and fair claim practices
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional initiatives sponsored by the CTCO/Chief Claims Officer to strengthen complex-claims capability and operating discipline
- Partner with Claims, Underwriting, Legal, and the broader Technical Claims Office to align priorities, deliverables, and decision frameworks
- Develop and deliver targeted technical training and coaching to strengthen coverage and complex-claims capability
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. required
- 10+ years of experience as an attorney and/or claims professional with deep expertise in complex coverage issues, high-exposure claims, and coverage litigation
- Proven ability to partner with and influence claim executives and senior stakeholders
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with sound judgment and strong prioritization
- Executive-level communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across insureds, brokers, counsel, and internal business partners
- Ability to obtain and maintain required insurance adjuster licenses
- Self-directed, highly accountable, and able to deliver under pressure
- Strong analytical skills—able to synthesize complex facts and present crisp recommendations
- Deep knowledge of claim handling guidelines, best practices, and fair claim practices across jurisdictions and lines
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, organization, and time-management skills
- Collaborative, with the ability to work independently and lead through influence
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and analytics/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI)
