About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and review federal and state tax returns for dental practices and owners, including 1040s, 1065s, 1120S, and related state filings.
- Oversee tax engagements involving multi-entity structures such as practice entities, real estate entities, management companies, and owner holding companies.
- Provide proactive tax planning for dentist-owners, including entity structuring, reasonable compensation considerations, and timing of income and deductions.
- Identify and communicate tax planning opportunities related to practice growth, acquisitions, buy-ins/buy-outs, equipment purchases, and transitions.
- Partner with CAS and accounting teams to ensure alignment between monthly financials and tax reporting.
- Review tax-impact areas such as depreciation, fixed assets, owner compensation, and entity activity.
- Participate in client onboarding and transitions, ensuring proper tax setup, workflows, and timelines.
- Lead, mentor, and develop tax associates and senior associates supporting dental clients.
- Delegate work across onshore and offshore resources while maintaining accountability for quality and deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with firm standards, tax laws, and quality control procedures.
- Monitor tax law changes impacting dental and professional services clients and translate implications into actionable guidance.
- Support tax notices, audits, and client inquiries.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and scalability.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s in Taxation preferred.
- CPA license required.
- 5+ years of U.S. federal tax compliance and consulting experience in public accounting.
- Strong experience with pass-through entities and owner-managed businesses.
- Prior experience managing or reviewing the work of tax staff.
- Prior experience with IRS and state department of revenues responding to notices and letters
- Strong technical tax knowledge relevant to dental and professional services clients.
- Ability to explain tax concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Excellent organizational and deadline management skills.
- Proficiency with tax software and firm technology tools.
- Ability to adapt to change and use AI in a professional setting.
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on integrated service delivery.
