About the role

  • Serve as the primary owner of Apogee’s Data Lakehouse architecture, roadmap, and implementation, in close partnership with a Systems Integrator
  • Define the data platform to support Clinical Development and Clinical Operations, with a clear path to extend to Technical Operations, Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Finance
  • Design and oversee data ingestion, transformation, and storage for structured and semi-structured data from key Apogee sources, including external CRO systems (e.g., EDC, CTMS, safety, statistical outputs)
  • Establish and maintain subject area data models and semantic layers tailored to clinical and operational use cases
  • Ensure the platform is designed and operated in alignment with Apogee’s GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, SOX Controls, and other regulatory/compliance expectations, where applicable
  • Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines (ingestion, transformation, curation) into the Data Lakehouse using modern data engineering practices
  • Develop and maintain data models that serve Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, and later Tech Ops and Commercial / Med Affairs / Finance
  • Implement data quality, lineage, and metadata practices, working with business data owners to define critical data elements and trusted metrics
  • Contribute to defining data governance at Apogee, including data ownership, stewardship, and standardized KPI and metric definitions across functions
  • Design and build dashboards / analytic views that support key functional area use cases
  • Define reusable data marts and semantic models that enable self-service analytics for Clinical and, over time, other functions
  • Act as a trusted partner to Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Biometrics, Medical Monitoring, and other functions, translating their questions into implementable data and analytics solutions
  • Work closely within IT (Infrastructure and Security), QA, and business stakeholders to support any required validation, testing, and controlled releases of data and analytics capabilities
  • Communicate roadmaps, status, risks, and dependencies clearly and regularly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership
  • Drive adoption and literacy around the Data Lakehouse and BI tools by developing documentation, providing training/enablement for key users, and promoting best practices
  • Help define the future operating model for data and analytics at Apogee, including when and how to scale into a broader team

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform, or analytics roles, with meaningful experience owning or leading a modern cloud data platform (Data Lakehouse or cloud data warehouse)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Life Sciences, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
  • Proven track record as a hands-on senior level individual contributor, comfortable both setting strategy and implementing technical solutions
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar) and modern data stack components
  • Strong expertise in data modeling and ETL/ELT for analytics and reporting, including building reusable, production-grade data assets
  • Experience working closely with integration teams (ideally with MuleSoft or similar) and understanding how operational integrations and data pipelines intersect
  • Prior experience in biotech / pharma / life sciences is strongly preferred, especially supporting Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Biometrics, or Medical Monitoring
  • Familiarity with data from CROs and clinical systems (e.g., EDC, CTMS, safety, lab, statistical outputs) and integrating these into a centralized data environment
  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA) and supporting audit/inspection readiness is highly desirable
  • Exposure to Apogee-relevant systems is a plus (e.g., Veeva Vault applications, Egnyte GxP repositories, SAS server, NetSuite)
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one data engineering language (e.g., Python or Scala)
  • Hands-on experience with data pipeline and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Azure Data Factory, dbt, or similar) and CI/CD concepts for data workloads
  • Solid understanding of data architecture patterns (data lakes, lakehouses, warehouses, dimensional modeling, semantic layers)
  • Experience integrating data from file repositories (SharePoint, Egnyte) and external partners (CROs, cloud vendors, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and access control in an enterprise setting, and how these intersect with GxP and other compliance requirements
  • Strategic yet pragmatic; able to start from a greenfield environment and design a phased, realistic roadmap
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, capable of framing data and platform decisions in business terms for clinical and executive stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, collaborating effectively with integration, infrastructure, security, QA, and business teams without direct reporting lines
  • High ownership and bias for action, comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth clinical-stage biotech environment
  • Interest in eventually building and leading a small data team, while being fully comfortable as a hands-on individual contributor in the near term
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including mandatory in-person attendance at Apogee All Hands meetings typically held twice per year
Benefits
  • A great culture, grounded in our C.O.R.E. values: Caring, Original, Resilient and Egoless
  • Opportunity to work in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment where you help shape the culture and company, wear multiple hats, and learn quickly
  • Market competitive compensation and benefits package, including base salary, performance bonus, equity grant opportunities, health, welfare & retirement benefits
  • We provide competitive time off, including three weeks PTO, two one-week company-wide shutdowns a year and dedicated paid sick leave
  • Commitment to growing you professionally and providing access to resources to further your development
  • Apogee offers regular all team, in-person meetings to build relationships and problem solve
