About the role
- Project Engineer for utility-scale energy storage battery augmentation projects
- Involved from conception through execution with cross-functional exposure
- Plan, design, and execute multiple energy storage augmentation projects
- Engineering oversight and consulting across cross functional teams
- Prepare scopes of work and support contract documents
- Collaborate with Project Managers, permitting, procurement, interconnection and construction teams
- Provide oversight of external Engineers of Record
- Identify and implement value engineering opportunities
Requirements
- Perform detailed design engineering of electrical, structural and civil aspects of utility-scale energy storage augmentation projects
- Manage multiple concurrent high volume battery augmentation projects from conception through execution
- Prepare technical scopes of work for incorporation into contract documents
- Support projects from conception through execution, working closely with early-stage and construction project managers
- Influence project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work, including oversight of external Engineers of Record
- Maintain familiarity with progress and problems in assigned technical area
- Identify value engineering opportunities
- SME in substation or utility scale energy storage design and/or project management
- Expertise in Power electronics, Battery storage system design, Substation design, Generation tie design
- Design and/or operation of large-scale power generation or processing plants involving regulatory requirements
- Hands-on experience and knowledge of construction methods, including foundations, trenching, electrical terminations and testing
- Strong knowledge of energy storage technologies including battery chemistries, power conversion units and DC-DC converters
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery storage safety standards: UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, IFC/IBC
- Familiarity with interconnection studies and GIA material modification adjustment (MMA) processes in WECC and CAISO
- Construction permitting and contracting experience
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program
- 5+ years of proven engineering experience
