Civil Plans Examiner
AokaCivil Engineering professional ensuring civil engineering plans meet safety and regulatory requirements. Working part-time on an as-needed basis remotely from anywhere in Texas.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate the full range of civil engineering plans, calculations, and supporting documents for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Assess site development plans, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, roadway improvements, and erosion control measures
- Review floodplain development proposals for compliance with FEMA standards, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and local floodplain ordinances
- Evaluate elevation certificates, no-rise certifications, hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) studies, and floodplain development permit applications
- Verify that plans comply with adopted codes, municipal standards, and accepted engineering practices
- Prepare clear, accurate review comments and required corrections through the VertexPlans platform
- Coordinate with engineers, developers, contractors, and municipal staff (including floodplain administrators) to resolve review comments
- Utilize VertexPlans for project tracking, documentation, communication, and report submission
- Consistently meet established turnaround times while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field required
- Active Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Availability to work part-time on an as-needed basis remotely (no guaranteed minimum hours)
- Strong technical command of civil engineering principles related to site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and infrastructure
- Texas Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification preferred
- Prior experience performing civil and floodplain plan reviews for municipalities preferred
- Working knowledge of FEMA floodplain regulations, the National Flood Insurance Program, and local floodplain ordinance administration
