About the role
- Lead substation protection and control engineering projects, partnering with design engineers and drafters to ensure high-quality deliverables are submitted on time.
- Create and modify design documents and drawings, including electric substation one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements and specifications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, and bills of material.
- Design auxiliary AC and DC power systems.
- Develop SCADA systems and communications interfaces.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to fully integrate protection, control, automation, and monitoring systems.
- Perform engineering calculations such as relay burden, voltage drop, short circuit studies, battery sizing, auxiliary AC and DC load tabulations, and other analyses required to support project success.
- Perform relay coordination studies and prepare relay settings.
- Conduct engineering and technical quality reviews of deliverables prepared by other engineers and designers.
- Perform site walk-downs to independently scope project requirements as needed.
- Coordinate material procurement and delivery to project sites.
- Support Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle, including participating in client calls and meetings and assisting with project execution needs.
- Contribute to the development of project cost estimates for substation protection and control projects, including planning, engineering/design, construction, and testing components.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of a substation project lifecycle at the utility level
- Excellent technical communication and detail-oriented work practices
- High comfort level with teaching, training, and mentoring team members
- Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited university in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years of experience in relay protection and control design of high voltage 12-500 kV substations
- Engineer in Training (EIT) designation required, Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred. EIT designation is required to progress towards Professional Engineering (PE) Licensure, which is needed to progress in your career at Amped I.
