About the role
- Drawing on the expertise of AFREF staff, labor partners, allies, and other experts, develop principles for responding to financial and economic crises in ways that advance worker and community justice and create documents to lay them out.
- Develop materials to make the case for these principles and to explain the sources of financial risk.
- Build support for crises response principles within AFREF’s networks of partner organizations and allies and with policymakers.
- Coordinate with key partners, driving work plans and sharing information for policy development and advocacy on crisis response.
- Write opinion pieces, blog posts, explainers, white papers, and other documents that make connections across AFREF issues, including consumer finance, crypto, investor protection, systemic risk, and more, and embed them in the context of broader economic and racial justice policies.
- Organize a virtual speaker series to highlight emerging issues in finance and financial regulation.
- Staff the AFREF Expert Advisory Council.
- Work with our communications and digital teams to communicate AFREF’s perspectives to the press and through social media.
- Represent AFREF in meetings with allies and policymakers.
- Perform additional special projects as needs and opportunities arise
Requirements
- A commitment to racial and economic justice;
- At least 6 years of relevant experience;
- Expertise on finance and financial regulation
- Extensive policy analysis experience and experience developing innovative policy solutions to complex problems;
- Strong writing skills and the ability to write effectively in a range of tones and contexts;
- Effective communication skills and experience presenting to varied audiences;
- A demonstrated track record of strategic thinking and judgement;
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to drive results, stay on top of multiple threads of work, and navigate complex dynamics;
- A record of building effective relationships with diverse people and organizations;
- Comfort working both independently and cooperatively with colleagues and coalition members.
