About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Contribute to the product vision, strategy, and value proposition
- Understand customer pain points, customer journeys, and personas; articulate the product value proposition
- Conduct market and user research, identify market trends, and evaluate the competitive landscape
- Develop business cases articulating the quantitative and strategic business impact of products or services
- Collect and synthesize product data to drive actionable insights and steer product strategy
- Partner with Delivery and Technology teams to groom, prioritize, and execute the product backlog in an agile environment
- Drive product or feature adoption and engagement with cross-functional stakeholders
- Develop marketing and servicing materials and measure post-launch impact
- Collaborate with engineering, data, analytics, product management, and other internal and external stakeholders during the 10-week internship
Requirements
What you’ll need- Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree program
- Bachelor's degree candidate with expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2028
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States; visa sponsorship will not be pursued
- Experience in the payments industry is a plus
- Experience with SQL and/or Hive is a plus
- Strong interest in payments, digital products, and product management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn about payments and emerging technologies
- Ability to collaborate with leaders, colleagues in different time zones, and cross-functional partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present ideas clearly and concisely
- Strategic and innovative mindset; ability to translate data and insights into actionable business opportunities
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint
- Resilience, proactive problem-solving, and optimism in changing circumstances
- Ability to manage competing priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change
- Comfort challenging the status quo and driving continuous process improvement
