About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide support to the Senior Paralegal and Counsel in responding to legal orders
- Decide and respond to legal orders issued by federal, state, and local agencies, private attorneys, or pro se litigants
- Analyze legal orders for validity issues and objections, escalating matters to the Senior Paralegal for review
- Electronically deliver fulfillment records using technology enhancements, secure email, or US mail when required
- Upload official fulfillment records to the case management system or shared drive
- Escalate third-party legal orders that meet legal review and escalation procedures
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of fulfillment records
- Work with Counsel on large, complex, or highly confidential subpoena productions
- Validate escalated third-party legal orders against federal and state RFPA privacy-law requirements before releasing records
- Contact legal-order issuers by phone or email to negotiate extensions
- Research court dockets and contact court clerks regarding subpoena validity or issuance
- Provide Counsel with regular progress updates on assigned matters
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Support quality reviews and fulfillment tasks for colleagues in overseas locations, on a regular or rotating basis
- Identify and promptly escalate legal or operational risk events to Counsel
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate degree in legal studies, criminal justice, or a related field, or paralegal certification
- At least 2–3 years of experience as a litigation, regulatory, or government paralegal/legal assistant in a law firm or government agency
- Experience working with attorneys and managing litigation dockets and attorney calendars
- Experience preparing responses to discovery and/or regulatory requests
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and critical-thinking skills
- Experience understanding and interpreting legal-order requests
- Experience with litigation and/or regulatory processes enabling substantive paralegal and attorney interaction
- Ability to identify urgent or critical matters based on legal-order content
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Organization and ability to prioritize, track, and calendar deadlines
- Ability to quickly learn, navigate, and extract information from varied databases and information platforms
- Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
- Ability to analyze and solve problems
