About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify risks throughout business processes and systems with business process owners
- Build and scale RCSA reporting and metrics capabilities, including actionable KPIs/KRIs and standardized insight-driven outputs
- Facilitate business-unit risk assessments, testing, and quality-assurance programs
- Build a scalable RCSA governance framework and translate industry best practices into practical standards
- Lead supplemental control monitoring and communicate operational-risk trends, activities, and events to senior management
- Identify high-risk areas for intervention and conduct independent quality assurance and vertical process testing
- Compile thematic risk reporting on risk levels, trends, causes, emerging trends, and root causes
- Categorize controls and map them against risks and processes across business units
- Support risk identification and improved controls within New Product Governance
- Champion risk-management practices across the business
- Develop risk dashboards, key risk indicators, risk profiles, and maintain risk registers
- Share insights, better practices, and themes across the enterprise
- Analyze large datasets and extract actionable insights
- Present data-driven stories using data visualization and PowerPoint
- Manage complex, long-term initiatives with competing priorities and tight deadlines
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ Years experience in operational risk management, such as within Risk or Internal Audit
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with ability to obtain buy-in from senior business-unit and technology counterparts
- Expertise in process governance and establishing and overseeing decision-making processes aligned with policies, regulatory frameworks, or operational standards
- Experience within the financial services industry
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including data analysis, trend identification, and risk-scenario evaluation
- Demonstrated ability to manage large teams across geographies and backgrounds
- Experience identifying operational risks throughout business processes and systems
- Experience facilitating risk assessments, testing, and quality-assurance programs
- Experience enhancing risk assessments and associated methodologies
- Experience leading independent control monitoring and identifying control improvements
- Experience conducting independent quality assurance and process testing
- Experience compiling thematic risk reporting
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, risk management, or related field is listed as preferred, not required
- Advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous
