About the role
- Assist ABC’s Invasive Species Programs (e.g., Cats Indoors) and Advocacy teams with local, regional, and national communications needs that align with organizational mission and campaign goals.
- Coordinate with policy and threats staff to create and implement communications strategies that target policy implementation and human behavior change objectives.
- Identify opportunities for, coordinate the hiring of, and manage agreements with external vendors to help meet ABC’s communications needs in target markets (e.g., Hawaii).
- Coordinate with division leadership and program staff to create clear, persuasive content for education and advocacy efforts, including but not limited to: Action alerts, campaign messaging, and advocacy toolkits; Fact sheets, policy briefs, and educational materials; Press releases, media statements, and Op-Eds; Website content and email communications.
- Foster interdivisional collaboration and support, especially across policy, communications, and fundraising divisions.
- Provide rapid-response communications during key policy moments or emerging issues.
- Act as liaison with ABC’s Communications & Marketing team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, public policy, political science, natural resource policy or related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 2 years of experience in nonprofit communications, advocacy, or public affairs.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with experience translating policy or issue-based content.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Thrives in a collaborative setting.
- Works effectively in a mission-driven, fast-moving environment.
- All remote and hybrid employees are required to have a stable and high-speed internet service provider in place prior to beginning work for ABC.
- Authorized to work in the US or Permanent Resident.
- Occasional air and car travel may be required with this position.
- Background screening required.
