About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide clinical care for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Complete comprehensive patient assessments
  • Determine diagnoses and treatments
  • Order and interpret medical diagnostics with the attending physician
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, therapy, and medical equipment
  • Conduct patient education for chronic illness management and wellness care
  • Refer patients for specialty care when appropriate
  • Consult physicians when needs fall outside Physician Assistant scope or when diagnosis/treatment is unclear
  • Promote communication within interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Serve as a resource to team members
  • Work with primary care teams on program development
  • Liaise with outside agencies as needed
  • Consult and round on patients with hospital staff as designated by the specialty
  • Serve as an educator, case manager, and consultant to staff and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Participate in on-call coverage for surgical emergencies, including evenings and nights
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree and completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in surgery or cardiology preferred; new graduates may be considered
  • Licensed Physician Assistant by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 2 – Multisource required within 180 days
  • NCCPA Physician Assistant certification required upon hire
  • Drug Enforcement Administration credential required upon hire
  • Ability to work Monday–Friday 10-hour day shifts
  • Participation in evening/night surgical emergency call rotation
  • Every fourth weekend rounding and on-call rotation
  • Medium work capacity: lift up to 32 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently
