About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead federal, state, and local tax compliance, including income, franchise, and insurance premium tax filings
- Manage tax calendars, estimated payments, extensions, and filing deadlines
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors
- Prepare quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provisions
- Maintain tax workpapers, deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analyses, and financial statement disclosures
- Support internal and external audit requests
- Handle tax notices, audits, and inquiries from federal and state authorities
- Collaborate with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and Operations on tax implications and business initiatives
- Assist with regulatory, financial audit, and Medicare Advantage-related data requests
- Monitor tax legislation, regulatory developments, and IRS guidance
- Translate complex tax issues into recommendations for Finance leadership
- Improve tax processes, automation, compliance workflows, and SOX controls
- Use OneSource, CorpTax, Oracle, and Workday
- Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4 to 6 years of relevant tax experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department
- Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing ASC 740 income tax provisions
- Experience managing multi-state tax compliance, including insurance or franchise taxes
- Experience supporting external auditors and tax advisors with documentation and technical analysis
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required
- Equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, modeling, and data analysis
- Working knowledge of at least one major tax compliance software platform, such as OneSource or CorpTax
- Working knowledge of an ERP system, such as Oracle, Workday, or SAP
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
- Orange County, CA preferred; hybrid work as needed
- Healthcare, managed care, or insurance industry experience preferred
- Medicare Advantage exposure strongly preferred
- Experience in a regulated payer or health plan environment preferred
- Exposure to insurance premium tax filings, statutory reporting, or CMS-facing financial processes preferred
- Training in SOX compliance, internal controls, or finance process improvement preferred
- Familiarity with tax technology automation tools or AI-assisted compliance workflows preferred
- Expertise in ASC 740 tax provision preparation and reporting
- Strong corporate income tax compliance knowledge
- Experience with multi-state and insurance premium taxation
- Advanced analytical and Excel capabilities
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-tax stakeholders
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, regulated environment
