About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead end-to-end preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings, including income, franchise, and insurance premium tax returns
  • Manage the tax compliance calendar, estimated payments, extension filings, and statutory obligations
  • Support external tax advisors and auditors with documentation and analysis
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provisions
  • Calculate deferred tax assets and liabilities, analyze effective tax rates, and prepare financial statement disclosures
  • Maintain audit-ready tax provision workpapers and supporting documentation
  • Lead responses to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities
  • Track correspondence and audit activity through resolution
  • Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and Operations on tax implications and business decisions
  • Support data requests related to Medicare Advantage operations, regulatory filings, enrollment reconciliations, and financial audits
  • Research tax legislation, IRS guidance, and state law changes and translate findings into actionable summaries
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on technical positions, ruling requests, and complex issues
  • Improve tax compliance workflows, including automation within OneSource, CorpTax, Oracle, and Workday
  • Maintain organized records and support SOX internal control compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant tax experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department
  • Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing income tax provisions under ASC 740
  • Experience managing multi-state tax compliance, including insurance or franchise taxes
  • Experience supporting external auditors and tax advisors with documentation and technical analysis
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, modeling, and data analysis
  • Working knowledge of a major tax compliance software platform such as OneSource or CorpTax
  • Working knowledge of an ERP system such as Oracle, Workday, or SAP
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
  • Healthcare, managed care, or insurance industry experience preferred; Medicare Advantage exposure strongly preferred
  • Experience in a regulated payer or health plan environment preferred
  • Exposure to insurance premium tax filings, statutory reporting, or CMS-facing financial processes preferred
  • High attention to detail and deadline discipline
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative and cross-functional mindset
