About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Apply engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test tools, engines, machines, and mechanically functioning equipment
  • Lead and support mechanical design, testing, and production of electrical machines
  • Design electronics packaging for high-altitude aerospace applications
  • Lead or support mechanical packaging development for electronic equipment meeting mass, volume, thermal, and vibration requirements
  • Manage mid-size development projects outsourced to subcontractors
  • Lead or support thermal, structural, dynamic, and fluid-flow analysis for electronics equipment
  • Lead testing and data collection in laboratory and field environments
  • Model mechanical devices and select appropriate materials
  • Perform stress, fatigue, and thermal analyses; select bonding materials
  • Develop mechanical drawings and specify dimensional tolerances
  • Develop assembly instructions, test plans, and test procedures
  • Coordinate activities of other personnel when serving as Team Lead
  • Execute assignments according to schedules, milestones, and available resources

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 8–12 years of relevant technical experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years developing production rotating electrical machines, electronics equipment packaging solutions, and/or mechanical device solutions for industrial and aerospace applications
  • Experience developing mechanical subsystem requirements specifications according to MIL-STD 961D or equivalent
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical modeling
  • Proficiency with ANSYS for structural and fatigue analysis
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks and designing electrical rotating machines for high-performance applications
  • Extensive experience with thermal management tradeoffs, solutions, and material properties
  • Experience with bonding techniques for extreme environmental conditions using different adhesives
  • Experience with manufacturing methodologies of electrical machines
  • Experience creating and maintaining product document trees
  • Experience creating and maintaining product bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Experience with test and measurement techniques, including torque transducer calibration and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 or DO-160
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD 961D standards or equivalent for subsystem technical specifications
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles in the technical discipline
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • ITAR/EAR compliance eligibility as a U.S. person or eligibility for an export license; some positions require current U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to work in an office and production environment
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods and use computer and telephone keyboards
  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
  • Recognition by a reputable international engineering society, such as ASME at senior membership level or higher, is desired
