About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead or assist with HVAC and plumbing system design for DoD and mission-critical facility projects
  • Perform construction administration services, including shop drawing and RFI reviews and evaluation of contractor-proposed change orders
  • Evaluate alternative design approaches with senior team members
  • Perform site and field visits to assess existing conditions and evaluate equipment condition
  • Organize and plan projects to meet quality controls and project criteria within budget
  • Assist with preparing proposals and presenting to clients
  • Mentor junior staff within the Mechanical Department
  • Review and edit specifications
  • Interact and work with clients and subcontractors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering program
  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical design of HVAC and plumbing systems or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract/security requirements
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
  • Experience using AutoCAD and Revit preferred
  • Ability to interact with others on a multi-discipline team
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present designs to clients
  • Good time management, strong work ethic, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in building load calculation and energy modeling
  • Proficiency in plumbing system design, including sanitary, storm, and water distribution systems
  • Energy modeling experience a plus
  • Cost estimating experience a plus
  • Design-Build and alternate delivery practices experience a plus
  • Instrumentation and controls design experience a plus
  • Additional industry certifications such as LEED AP, CxA, or CEM
  • Federal experience with NAVFAC, USACE, VAMC, DoD, or USAF preferred
