About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serves as a fully capable professional in the field with minimal direction.
- Applies advanced knowledge to develop design procedures, software, and tools to support high-quality, cost-effective project delivery.
- Develops estimates of technical effort for projects.
- Manages communication and collaboration with the full design team and clients.
- Conducts interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
- Oversees development and implementation of technical approaches for complex work requiring ingenuity and creativity.
- Initiates project designs and plans, including preparation of presentations and design drawings.
- Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and working drawings.
- Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments.
- May oversee and guide less experienced designers.
- Meets with clients and oversees project execution to ensure client needs are met.
- Leads development of engineering drawings from initiation through completion in accordance with codes, standards, and design criteria.
- Develops and completes design assignments and engineering drawings of moderate to high complexity under limited supervision.
- Applies a solid understanding within a specific discipline, including codes, permits, and relevant software.
- Understands design and drawing preparation processes using project specifications and established standards.
- Reviews vendor and supplier documents for accuracy and understands their role in project delivery.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cost estimating, material take-offs, and budget support activities.
- Understands project change control processes and identifies potential changes.
- Maintains knowledge of discipline-specific equipment and material lists.
- Extensive experience with Autodesk Civil 3D (through 2025), including advanced surface and pipeline modeling.
- Translates general direction and conceptual sketches into complete design deliverables.
Requirements
What you’ll need- BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License
- Strong technical progression within civil engineering and design
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards
- Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
- ProjectWise
- Microsoft Excel
- Google Earth
- NavisWorks
- ESRI GIS, Blue Marble Global Mapper or other GIS applications
- Experience with other software a plus: InfraWorks, Vehicle Tracking, ReCap, Bluebeam, MicroStation, OpenRoads, OpenGround, GeoPak, Revit, Global Mapper
