About the role
- Lead multidisciplinary design teams for tailings projects, focusing on operational integration.
- Liaise with operations, project managers, and client representatives to gather and incorporate operational input
- Direct and facilitate comprehensive design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering workshops to drive technical excellence and project value.
- Manage designs to comply with regulatory standards, client specifications, AECOM quality requirements, and industry best practice guidelines.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and delivery.
- Cultivate and sustain robust client and stakeholder relationships, serving as a trusted advisor for design-related matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the project team
- Oversee planning, design, and support construction phases as required.
- Mentor engineers and support technical development within the team.
- Prepare and present technical documentation, reports, and design packages.
- Support bid preparation and proposal development for new projects.
- Support the project manager and project controls team by inspiring and motivating the design leads to recognize the value and complete all required earned value management practices.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary design managers in developing design solutions for TSFs, underflow sand embankments, cyclone stations, tailings pipelines, seepage control systems, and water management infrastructure.
- Champion a culture of health, safety, and environmental excellence across all project phases, integrate risk management practices into design and construction.
- Navigate and resolve conflicts within the project team and with clients, demonstrating professionalism, diplomacy, and the ability to stand firm on technical and contractual requirements while maintaining positive relationships.
- Contribute to financial management, including preparation and negotiation of contracts, project budgets, schedules, and change management to deliver on time and within scope.
- Review and contribute to earned value management (EVM) reports and provide direction to design leads, enabling informed decision-making and continuous performance improvement.
- Mentor and develop engineering leads, provide technical guidance, career development support, and foster a culture of innovation, quality, and accountability within the team.
Requirements
- BA/BS and 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership
- MA/MS Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Emphasis 15 years of relevant experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
