About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • One-on-one tutoring - Deliver the highest quality academic tutoring
  • Maintain content expertise for one or more STEM classes: math through calculus and chemistry, biology, and physics through AP level.
  • Craft personalized education plans for each student
  • Master and demonstrate proficiency with PrepMatters instructional methods
  • Tailor delivery of proprietary materials to the needs of the student
  • Build upon each student’s strengths, including shoring up academic weaknesses and study skills
  • Recognize and work to remediate the effects of stress and anxiety tied to the under performance on tests
  • Quickly establish a healthy rapport with students
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between PrepMatters and the families with which it works, providing expert feedback and guidance about students’ academic progress and struggles
  • Listen well and curiously to establish trust and help clients set realistic and helpful expectations and goals
  • Provide updates after each session in the form of notes to parents and students entered into our proprietary CRM tool
  • Respond to parent or student inquiries in a timely manner, maintaining professional standards of communication in form of address and language, and addressing client needs clearly and thoroughly
  • Proactively schedule ad hoc conferences with parents and students as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree – complete and not in progress. Advanced degree in Biology is a plus.
  • At least two years of tutoring experience in one or more academic subjects
  • A true appreciation for working with kids
  • Willingness to make at least 10 hours/week available, including at least some weekend time
  • The ability to reliably and independently manage client scheduling and email correspondence.
  • The skills required to score well on a qualifying test consisting of relevant subject matter
