About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, implement, and manage Elasticsearch clusters supporting large-scale data indexing and search operations
- Optimize Elasticsearch performance through configuration tuning, query optimization, and cluster scaling
- Monitor cluster health, performance, and security, implementing proactive stability measures
- Collaborate with software development and DevOps teams to integrate Elasticsearch into applications and workflows
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex Elasticsearch issues while minimizing downtime and data loss
- Implement Elasticsearch security best practices, including access controls, authentication, and encryption
- Stay current with Elasticsearch and ELK Stack developments and recommend upgrades or enhancements
- Mentor junior team members and share knowledge and best practices
- Document Elasticsearch configurations, procedures, and best practices
- Work with infrastructure, network, and systems engineers on the D3P Modernization program supporting DIA/NMEC OSINT capabilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of proven experience as an Engineer, 3-5 years experience as an Elasticsearch Engineer, or Master’s with 1-2 years of proven experience as an Elasticsearch Engineer
- Years' of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- Must possess an Active TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain CI Poly
- Experience in system integrations testing through a full system development life cycle, including implementing test plans, test cases and test processes
- Strong expertise in Elasticsearch cluster design, performance tuning, and optimization
- Proficiency in Elasticsearch query DSL and search query optimization
- Experience with Logstash, Kibana, Metricbeats, and Filebeats is a plus
- Knowledge of Elasticsearch security practices, including role-based access control and SSL/TLS
- Scripting and automation skills with tools like Python, Bash, or Ansible
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS
- Working in an Agile project management environment
- Experience documenting test results for corrective actions, reporting and audits
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well on a team and work independently
- Knowledge of Atlassian software such as JIRA, JIRA Service Desk, and Confluence is desired
- Experience with data engineering tools such as Kubernetes/Rancher and Cloudera is desired
- Experience with scripting languages and CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitLab is desired
- Experience working in air-gapped environments is desired
- Experience working in large computing environments (> 1,000 endpoints) is desired
- Experience maintaining AI/ML environments (NVIDIA hardware and software) is desired
- Experience maintaining large data (Petabyte) environments and storage solutions is desired
- Experience with advanced Linux network hardware, such as Mellanox Network Cards, is desired
- Must be able to work at the Bethesda, MD client location as required by client needs
