About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate job postings, candidate outreach, resume screening, screening calls, interviews, reference screenings, background checks, candidate research, and new-hire paperwork
  • Write and update job descriptions and make exempt/non-exempt classification determinations
  • Facilitate onboarding, orientation, first-30-day training, offboarding, exit interviews, and post-termination processes
  • Evaluate compensation and benefit needs; assist with benefits enrollment and questions
  • Maintain leave balances and PTO requests; administer protected leave and related documentation
  • Manage relationships with HR-related vendors
  • Draft, revise, maintain, and communicate the employee handbook, HR policies, and HR process SOPs
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws and maintain personnel files and HRIS data
  • Manage performance reviews and support grant-compliance HR documentation and audits
  • Serve as the primary contact for HR inquiries and support employee relations, performance management, corrective action, and terminations
  • Advise supervisors, managers, and the executive team on HR matters and policy application
  • Coordinate professional development and compliance training
  • Support workplace safety and workers’ compensation claims
  • Track HR metrics, prepare reports for leadership and/or the board
  • Manage employee feedback initiatives and assist with appreciation and wellness programs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience with full-cycle recruitment, benefits administration, and employee relations
  • 3+ years of experience in an HR support role
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a small-organization setting
  • Nonprofit experience preferred but not required
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Familiarity with BambooHR or other HR software and payroll systems preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
