About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the Geotechnical practice, including managing a small team and supporting practice growth
- Participate in firm leadership and contribute to firm management, goals, and marketing
- Provide technical leadership for geotechnical investigations, projects, and assignments
- Develop and execute the Geotechnical practice business plan
- Build and maintain client relationships and pursue business development and market growth opportunities
- Lead and manage geotechnical projects according to scopes, budgets, schedules, reporting requirements, and client agreements
- Oversee client service deadlines, budgeting, invoicing, and accounts receivable
- Perform and oversee site examinations, document reviews, field investigations, testing, and technical analysis related to geotechnical losses and failures
- Prepare and review technical reports to ensure quality standards are met
- Communicate technical findings, opinions, and recommendations to clients, colleagues, legal counsel, and stakeholders
- Provide expert opinion and testimony in mediations, arbitrations, discoveries, trials, and other legal proceedings
- Mentor and develop Geotechnical team members
- Collaborate on multidisciplinary investigations, projects, and business development opportunities
- Represent the firm at conferences, seminars, professional associations, and client and community activities
- Perform additional duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 10–15 years of progressive post-degree experience in geotechnical engineering
- Significant experience in a consulting engineering environment
- Currently registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario, or eligible for registration
- Experience in a senior technical, project management, or practice leadership capacity
- Strong understanding of commercial and operational aspects of consulting engineering practice
- Ability to lead teams and work effectively with professionals across disciplines
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Experience with complex forensic, litigation, or failure investigation matters is an asset
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
