About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the technical direction across Heartbeat AI’s engineering domain, including Mobile Apps, Energy Data, and the IoT platform
Keep the architecture aligned with product strategy
Ensure consistent execution of technical decisions and hold the team accountable for implementation
Set the technical standard and solve the most difficult technical problems
Translate business and product requirements into technical solutions
Mentor and challenge Heartbeat AI engineers
Build and maintain a high-performing engineering culture
Embed security and reliability as direct customer-facing value
Architect systems and APIs for AI agents with machine-readable contracts and structured error handling
Drive Heartbeat AI’s shift toward agentic engineering
Own the architecture of the AI systems powering the product, from EMS to energy tariffs
Report directly to the CTO

Requirements

What you’ll need

Minimum 5 years of hands-on software development experience
Extensive hands-on experience with multiple general-purpose programming languages
Proven track record of architecting scalable and secure systems
Extensive experience designing and implementing APIs for integration and system communication
Agile, results-oriented mindset with emphasis on collaboration and teamwork
Ability to communicate with stakeholders in business terms and to understand technical implications
Experience driving technical alignment and following through on critical technical decisions in fast-paced environments
Experience designing systems and APIs for agent consumption, including structured errors and clear contracts
Ability to guide an engineering team through the transition to agentic engineering
Experience architecting AI/ML-driven or data-intensive systems, ideally in an energy or IoT context
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
German proficiency is a plus
