About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own technical direction across the Virtual Assembly Line growth and operations engineering domain
Keep architecture aligned with product direction and ensure consistent execution of technical decisions
Set the technical bar and personally tackle the hardest engineering problems
Translate business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions
Architect systems and APIs for AI agents as first-class users with machine-readable contracts
Drive the team’s shift to agentic engineering while ensuring safe automation and human accountability
Mentor and challenge engineers within the Virtual Assembly Line team
Build a high-performing engineering culture
Embed security and reliability as direct customer value
Report directly to the CTO

Requirements

What you’ll need

Minimum 5 years of hands-on software development experience with multiple general-purpose programming languages
Proven experience architecting scalable and secure systems
Extensive experience designing and implementing APIs for system integration and automated AI-agent consumers
Agile and result-oriented mindset with emphasis on collaboration and teamwork
Ability to communicate with stakeholders in business terms and understand technical implications
Experience driving technical alignment and following through on critical technical decisions in fast-paced environments
Experience leading a team through a major workflow or tooling shift, including safe use of automation and AI agents
Ability to own features end-to-end from problem statement through shipped and maintained product
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
German proficiency considered a plus
Experience with TypeScript, React, Nest.js, Next.js, VueJS, Ruby on Rails, or Flutter
Experience with Google Cloud Platform, GKE/Kubernetes, Cloud Run, Terraform/IaC, Vercel, or Datadog
Experience with PostgreSQL, BigQuery, SQLMesh, Looker, Linear, Notion, Figma, or Miro
