About the role
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers working on the IoT platform ensuring alignment with company mission and technical excellence
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of the IoT platform that powers the 1k5 Heartbeat gateway fleet
- Architect for scalability, resilience, and observability at scale; define best practices for coding, releases, and developer enablement
- Lead development of messaging & connectivity (Eclipse HONO, MQTT), log collection, and observability services
- Drive customization of the Yocto-based Linux distribution and maintain hardware drivers for peripherals
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of security mechanisms such as secure boot and OS-level protections, in close collaboration with the security team
- Own the OTA (Mender-based) update processes, ensuring safe rollouts, rollback mechanisms, and robust versioning
- Lead gateway hardware enablement including PCB design and flashing stations, support supply chain colleagues with BOM management, and drive certification processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (security, supply chain) and enable developer workflows; work with technologies like GCP, OTEL, Docker, Kubernetes, Go
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in IoT engineering
- Proven experience in leading projects in IoT and cloud-edge solutions
- Ability to set direction and make architectural decisions
- Track record of translating complex technical challenges into clear priorities and deliverables
- Comprehensive knowledge of application-layer services (messaging, observability, connectivity), OTA update frameworks, and device security
- Ability to operate across the full stack: from low-level device software and OS customization to cloud connectivity and developer enablement tooling
- Proficiency in Go
- Expertise in embedded Linux development (preferably Yocto) and hardware driver integration, with a track record of delivering production-grade edge devices
- Hands-on knowledge of hardware enablement, including board design, BOM management, flashing stations, and certification processes
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Bonus points (preferred): contributions to open-source projects in IoT/embedded Linux, patents/publications/conference talks, building developer communities, compliance & certification experience, exposure to mechanical design and injection molding technologies
