Associate Director, Underwriting

• Perform a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines
• Work on highly complex underwriting risks employing diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability

• Determine appropriate pricing of complex risks for assigned book of business based on financial and competitive analysis

• Renders alternative outcomes for more difficult situations and makes real-time decisions in a fast paced environment characterized by ambiguity and change.
• Support consistent underwriting best practices, in accordance with underwriting guidelines, to ensure rating, pricing, profitability, and structuring adequacy.
• Responsible for assigning and managing the work of a team of underwriters.
• Assist underwriters in executing on strategic initiatives.
• Provide support and develop solutions to their issues/concerns (system, guidelines, training, reports, new project request, product amendments).

Senior Underwriting Specialist, Corporate Accounts Excess Casualty

• Manage 3 UW teams and develop their skill sets in line with our underwriting philosophy and guidelines
• Maintain relationships and stay on the cutting edge of new third party data offerings. Identify, pilot, and engage new tools to improve underwriting
• Communicate with our insurance partners in concert with Ladder’s business development director who leads the relationship management of our reinsurers and carriers
• Partner with actuary to present mortality slippage each month to Ladder’s mortality team
• Serve as a subject matter expert to engineering and product teams as we build new insurance offerings

Director, Underwriting

• Oversee and execute quality reviews of Group Rating Intake Tool (GRIT) requests and monthly production work, ensuring accuracy and compliance with actuarial rating methodologies and underwriting guidelines.
• Conduct actuarial, underwriting, and financial impact analysis, including short/long stop-loss period analysis, credibility studies, and underwriting risk assessments to drive data-backed recommendations.
• Develop and implement training materials, procedure manuals, and departmental documentation to ensure standardization and knowledge retention of actuarial methodologies and underwriting practices.
• Identify and implement efficiencies in underwriting workflows, leveraging automation, predictive modeling, and data-driven process improvements to optimize team productivity.
• Develop and deliver technical training on underwriting practices, actuarial methodologies, rating factor adjustments, and risk evaluation techniques.
• Collaborate with internal and external audit teams to support actuarial and underwriting compliance, quality controls, and regulatory reporting.
• Review and validate with final quality reviews for monthly mailings and other underwriting communications to ensure accuracy and clarity.

• Support SERFF rate filings with the Kansas Department of Insurance (KDOI) ensuring accurate and timely submission of rate justifications and regulatory documents.
• Oversee enhancements to underwriting tools and actuarial databases, ensuring seamless integration of rating models and optimization of underwriting systems.

Underwriting Quality and Tools Analyst

• Performs underwriting analysis and documentation to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards for renewal and new business within assigned Letter of Underwriting Authority.
• Handles endorsement requests within delegated authority.
• Refers endorsements outside of authority to underwriter with recommended action.
• Independently engages agency to clarify intent of endorsement or seek missing information.
• Handles assigned renewal book within assigned authority and demonstrates the ability to triage renewal applications/specs and formulate next steps for the underwriter with outlined changes or points of attention for accounts outside authority.
• Works as a liaison within the branch, or across CNA to resolve issues (billing and collections, risk control, underwriting guidance from cabinet members, line of business, underwriting services subject matter experts)
• Documents assigned files ensuring completeness, compliance, and quality (correspondence, proposals, endorsements, cancellations, etc.).
• Executes on advanced pricing strategy (i.e. business unit pricing tools) on behalf of the Underwriter in compliance with regulatory and CNA specific underwriting strategies and demonstrates ability to document pricing rationale
• Completes quote proposals and negotiates with external partners within assigned authority.
• Leveraged as the first-line point of contact to the producers/customers on account related matters while proactively identifying opportunities for up sell or account rounding.
• Assist in marketing products and services through external partners and makes field visits.
• Expert on systems and workflows. Serves as a resource to others (train, problem solver, coach ) and conduit for feedback to internal underwriting partners.
• Keeps current on line of business strategy, state/territory issues, regulations and trends. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Underwriting Associate, Construction Retail/Monoline Umbrella

• Bring your expertise as an underwriter to cross-functional Ladder work teams.
• Evaluate medical and personal history on life insurance applications up to $8 million face amount.
• Participate in the development of the Underwriting team members.
• Collaborate with the Underwriting Audit team to enhance Underwriting Guidelines and clearly communicate audit finding feedback to the Underwriting team.
• Work closely with the Customer Experience and Compliance teams to answer underwriting related questions and share underwriting knowledge.
• Be comfortable both underwriting and applying your knowledge to systems and processes.
