Producer

• Develop episode outlines and, where needed, full script drafts including host intros, transition language, and outros in a voice consistent with each show's editorial identity.
• Serve as the editorial lead through post-production, working with audio engineers and video editors to ensure final audio and video episodes reflect the intended structure, pacing, and content priorities.
• Conduct pre-interviews with prospective and confirmed guests to assess fit, develop episode angles, and gather the information needed to brief hosts and shape conversation outlines.
• Prepare guests for recording, including providing technical guidance for both audio and video sessions, setting expectations for format and tone, and ensuring a smooth recording experience.
• Coordinate with video editors on visual elements specific to the video format, including on-screen graphics, chapter markers, and the selection of B-roll or supplemental footage where applicable.
• Write and edit episode titles, descriptions, and show notes for publication across podcast platforms, YouTube, and Cato's website.
• Coordinate recording schedules, guest logistics, and production timelines across multiple shows or episodes in flight simultaneously.
• Collaborate with communications and digital teams to support episode promotion and audience development across audio and video platforms.
• Stay current on Cato's research output and policy priorities to identify timely guest and topic opportunities.

Story Producer, Podcasts

• Identify, research, and shape the podcast—helping the Executive Producer and Hosts decide on topics and guests.
• Find, vet, and book guests, conduct research and pre-interviews, and write scripts--with an eye towards creating smart, fun, digestible, accessible shows that help listeners feel more connected to DC.
• Coordinate with Executive Editor, Managing Editors and Executive Producer to translate articles and reporting produced by our reporters into compelling podcast episodes.
• Record and edit episodes, injecting style and distinctive flair into each day’s episode via your discerning use of good tape.
• Cover for the Executive Producer when they’re unavailable, ensuring seamless operations and captivating content.
• Occasional work with the Hosts and Audience Development Manager to create daily social media content.
• Contribute regularly on-mic, bringing your personality, local passion, and expertise to the show.
• Contribute to an inclusive, kind, supportive work environment that enables you and your team to do your best work.
• Manage podcast ad production. Write and produce audio for weekly podcast ads, in line with City Cast voice

Podcast Producer

• Ensure day-to-day execution of the Photo Camp program
• Responsible for production and logistics coordination for Photo Camps worldwide
• Supports the implementation of the program’s strategy by managing event and travel planning, budgets, contracts, logistics related to the program’s operations
• Provide on-the-ground logistics support and event production during selected National Geographic Photo Camps
• Serve as the NGS contact between the students, community liaisons, and partners for each Photo Camp.

Production Manager, Storytelling

• End-to-end production of short- and mid-form videos, with an eye for a social-first audience, including pitching stories, scripting, filming, and editing, all while maintaining the highest levels of sophistication and quality, at a competitive pace.
• Working closely with writers and editors to translate our award-winning journalism into video formats.
• Contributing to the enhancement of The Atlantic’s video strategy, including visual design, workflows, distribution, and innovation.
• Training newsroom staff on video best practices, including equipment usage both in-office and in the field, how to be on camera, editing workflows, and more.
• Writing copy for videos on our social platforms, with eye toward clarity, engagement, editorial excellence, and SEO.
