• Determine retirement eligibility and benefits, specifically disability eligibility
• Provide information to members, beneficiaries, alternate payees, and employers on rights and benefits
• Analyze complex medical documentation to determine and recommend disability eligibility
• Work closely with internal Medical Advisor and external Medical Staff
• Recommend continuation or discontinuation of disability benefits based on medical documentation and employment review
• Create individualized complex letters detailing review of a disability claim; quoting proper ORS and OAR that supports determination
• Effectively communicate by phone to members, detailing complex and sensitive information

• Provide coverage in short-term, surge and on demand situations resulting from the Military needs
• Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families
• Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences
• Develop and make available informational financial materials to service members and families
• Coordinate, publicize and provide Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on various topics
• Manage duty to warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol
• Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision

Personal Financial Counselor

• Patient Financial Counselors are part of a team who has direct interaction with patients and their families either on the phone or in person.
• They are responsible for easing the way in resolution of patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance.
• The Patient Financial Counselor Associate identifies eligibility, provides education, facilitates completion of applications for Medicaid/MediCal, and makes referrals as necessary for enrollment support.
• They assist patients and make eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance.
