• Explore and document how RAGtime engages its existing datasets—federal litigation, statutes, regulations, Office of Legal Counsel opinions, and foreign-relations records—surfacing patterns, strengths, and gaps;
• Experiment with new datasets: help identify, evaluate, and onboard new corpora of public records, and assess how they expand what the platform can do;
• Develop use cases by working with senior editors and users to craft and refine the prompts and workflows that turn RAGtime into beneficial tools for research, reporting, and analysis;
• Conduct data journalism and research analysis using RAGtime—finding stories, evidence, and insight in the primary-source record and helping translate them into Lawfare's published work;
• Serve as a thought partner to the editor-in-chief and to volunteer software developers on the platform’s roadmap and capabilities;
• Help keep current and new data pipelines up to date using AI-assisted (“vibe coding”) approaches—formal software-engineering experience is not required;
• Gather and synthesize feedback from users to inform improvements and new features;
• Contribute to platform documentation, user guidance, and, as needed, reporting on platform use for funders and stakeholders;
• Take on other responsibilities as the platform grows.

Data Journalism Fellow

• Break news and deliver exclusive reporting on developments across the energy industry.
• Cover a broad range of topics including oil and gas operations, markets, corporate strategy, M&A, finance, policy, technology, and energy transition trends.
• Produce quick-turn news stories, feature articles, enterprise reporting, and analytical pieces.
• Build and maintain relationships with executives, investors, analysts, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
• Monitor company filings, earnings reports, transactions, commodity markets, regulatory developments, and industry data to identify stories ahead of competitors.
• Generate original story ideas that align with audience interests and evolving industry priorities.
• Collaborate with editors, audience teams, and fellow journalists to shape coverage and maximize impact.
• Contribute to newsletters, social media promotion, and digital publishing initiatives.
• Participate in Hart Energy conferences, webinars, podcasts, awards programs, and other editorial events as needed.

• Provide breaking news coverage by monitoring agency announcements, tracking regulatory decisions, and filing fast, accurate reports on healthcare policy and industry shifts.
• Write and publish reports using data-driven analysis and narrative journalism techniques to break down complex healthcare regulations and their economic and social impacts.
• Monitor and analyze regulatory updates and news announcements from HHS, FDA, CDC, CMS, and NIH by reviewing press releases, policy statements, agency reports, and regulatory filings.
• Summarize key developments and assess their impact on pharmaceutical companies, insurers, healthcare providers, and patients.
• Track congressional hearings, legislative proposals, and budget discussions related to drug pricing, healthcare access, and regulatory reforms.
• Write summaries and provide analysis of proposed legislation’s potential outcomes.
• Review and analyze lobbying disclosures, campaign finance records, and congressional testimony to identify corporate influence on pharmaceutical policy.
• File Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and examine government databases, legal filings, and enforcement actions to uncover non-public regulatory decisions, corporate influence, and policy loopholes.

Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Reporter – Level 1 Journalist

• Ultimately responsible as “keeper of the record” of legal proceedings, including deposition and hearings.
• Administer the oath to a witness prior to proceedings.
• Monitor and edit realtime transcription of the spoken word through use of Maggie™ proprietary software to ensure an accurate, verbatim written record.
• Protect the official record by confidently intervening if participants are engaging in crosstalk.
• Gather and preserve information needed to produce a final written record, including case information, participants, and exhibits.
• Manage transcript delivery timelines and client communication to ensure timely delivery.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure quality standards are met.
• Responsible for finalizing and certifying that the final transcript is a true and accurate record of the proceeding.
