About the role
- Steward the site's Broad Scope Radioactive Materials Program, Accelerator Program, and Radiation Generating Device Program.
- Perform preliminary reviews of proposed new uses and users of radioactive materials and formally discuss the proposal with the RSC for approval.
- Perform audits of all areas of use and individuals who are authorized to use byproduct material to ensure work is done observing the license, regulations, and user permit conditions.
- Steward the Emergency Response Program
- Steward the Environmental Monitoring Program as applicable
- Manage the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team
- Help manage the non-ionizing radiation safety program
- Provide guidance to the radiation protection and environmental safety technicians
- Monitor main performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in physics, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of related RSO or RPM experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer or progress towards formal training certification.
- NRRPT or CHP is helpful.
- Must be vetted Trustworthy and Reliable, observing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, PA Department of Environmental Protection and the Churchill Site Access Authorization Program.
- Familiarization or experience working in a research laboratory setting with the presence of chemical, biological, or radiological hazards.
- Demonstrated experience communicating technical information to multiple audiences is necessary.
- Ability to respond to emergencies involving radiological hazards.
- Required technical skills includes: 10CFR Part 61 calculations and decisions, 10CFR Part 37 experience, Radiological Waste Shipping qualifications (49CFR including IATA), NESHAPS/RCRA/CERCLA experience, Internal/external dosimetry experience (calculations and investigations), Special Nuclear Material/NMSS reporting, Decommissioning, American Nuclear Insurer experience (as an insured), Shielding design/calculations/application of shielding to reduce exposure, X-ray/accelerator/RGD experience.
