About the role
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplined team of architecture and engineering professionals on rail structural projects.
- Engage in the full project life cycle from schematic design through construction for Class I, short line, and passenger railroads.
- Conduct site assessments and prepare design calculations.
- Develop construction cost estimates.
- Contribute to development of preliminary and final designs using AutoCAD and other design applications.
- Work on projects including industrial and maintenance facilities, locomotive fueling stations, bulk handling structures, and administration buildings.
- Participate in learning seminars, mentorship, and networking activities as part of the structured internship.
Requirements
- Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
- Previous experience or formal training with AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to ask questions and engage in discussions with team members and other internal contacts.
- Ability to travel locally as needed for project assignments, team meetings, site visits, etc.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week (mid-May through mid-August 2026) with occasional overtime.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States and able to complete and pass background, security, and drug test requests.
- Advantageous: Previous coursework or project assignments related to structural design.
- Advantageous: General understanding of drafting techniques and construction plan development practices.
- Advantageous: Previous experience with RISA or Revit.
