About the role

  • The Criminal Drug Intelligence Analyst leads the Vermont Drug Monitoring Initiative (DMI) by evaluating confidential narcotics-related information and producing comprehensive analytical reports.
  • The Analyst uses a range of specialized state and federal databases to examine crime patterns, conduct time-series analyses, and identify criminal groups, key individuals, methods of operation, and levels of influence within Vermont communities.
  • Responsibilities may also include preparing statistical reports for grants, productivity tracking, and regular updates to executive leadership, including weekly, monthly, and annual Governor’s reports.
  • The position maintains data integrity through quality control of intelligence records and ensures accurate information is entered, received, and disseminated.
  • Work is performed under the general supervision of Vermont Intelligence Center leadership.
  • Experience with programming languages, statistical software, and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping is preferred.
  • The role requires the ability to brief colleagues, leadership, and public audiences on the Vermont DMI and to participate in multidisciplinary drug intelligence meetings.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in criminal justice, data analysis, public administration, or related field.
  • OR Three (3) years or more of experience in law enforcement, records case management, public safety systems, or public safety research.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in analysis with a focus on Vermont’s criminal drug landscape.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement terminology, narcotics investigative techniques, and the collection, analysis, and dissemination of criminal intelligence.
  • Ability to properly handle, store, secure, destroy, and track classified or sensitive materials; able to work in a secure environment and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze information from multiple sources—often with limited leads—to produce accurate written, graphic, and statistical findings.
  • Skilled in modern office and analytical software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products.
  • Ability to perform repeated intelligence searches with strong attention to detail and quality control; able to multitask, prioritize effectively, and work under intense pressure and deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the Vermont Intelligence Center in a professional manner; maintain effective working relationships; and participate on panels, committees, and task forces related to Vermont’s drug and criminal activity issues.
  • Ability to work with disturbing or graphic content related to criminal investigations.
  • Ability to work assigned hours in an office setting.
