About the role

  • Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work.
  • Has the authority to effectively recommend the hiring, transferring, suspension, lay off, recall’s, promotions, discharges, assignments, rewards, or disciplinary actions for subordinate employees.
  • Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff.
  • Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate with Operations Centers for equipment needs and review the utilization and of equipment to determine replacement needs.
  • Make recommendations and coordinate vehicle rotation to maximize fleet utilization.
  • Supervise staff in processing requisitions for the replacement of equipment.
  • Review all requisitions for accuracy.
  • Review delivery of vehicles for compliance with specifications as bid.
  • Make recommendations for vehicles found not to be within specifications.
  • Coordinate repairs in all Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) shops to ensure that all FDOT equipment is being repaired in a timely manner and cost-effective manner.
  • Assisting in scheduling work loads to help each shop keep from being overloaded.
  • Aid management in tracking all related costs of preventative maintenance programs in the District and make recommendations on improving the overall program.
  • Monitor all warranty work on vehicles and track manufacturer's recall notices to ensure vehicles are operating in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Oversee Fleet Operations Staff and evaluate shop efficiencies in the areas of personnel use, material, and cost.
  • Make recommendations to management as to the need for changes in the local shops.
  • Review the District's rebuild program and make inspections during the rebuilding process in order to ensure that repairs are made in accordance with best practices.
  • Provide shop personnel with technical information as requested and any other needed assistance related to the Department's fleet.
  • Maintain inventory data in the current Department fleet management and accounting systems.
  • Prepare reports to assist management in making decisions related to fleet maintenance and utilization.
  • Provide training for field personnel in the correct reporting.
  • Track and report monthly delinquent preventative maintenance schedules for each yard.
  • Manage the administration requirements for the fuel card purchasing program.

Requirements

  • Skills in reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Skills in the use of current purchasing procedures.
  • Skills in the use of current versions of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to sort, code, file and retrieve data.
  • Ability to use various Department of Transportation (DOT) on-line applications including MyFloridaMarketPlace (MFMP), Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR), Contract Funds Management / Florida Accountability Contracts Tracking System (CFM/FACTS), Works purchasing card system, and Florida Electronic Equipment Tracking (FLEET).
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to supervise.
