About the role
- Function as the Business Center’s Electrical SME, designated chief reviewer/approver, and PE/signatory for electrical projects requiring stamping
- Provide high-level review and oversight of electrical designs and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices
- Consult, support, and lead evaluation, recommendation, and specification for larger power systems (typically 480 V up to 34.5 KV)
- Perform calculations, prepare deliverables, attend client meetings, and provide field support for information gathering, start-up and commissioning
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal teams, external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors
- Participate in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating
- Assist with developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule
- Lead preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents
- Perform and oversee calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software
- Utilize BIM technologies to develop 3D models of building electrical systems and provide markups for CAD designers
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and participate in constructability review
- Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical group
- Oversee other team members on project-related activities; report to electrical group manager with soft reporting lines to project managers
Requirements
- Minimum of 15 years of experience
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of National Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes, NFPA and IEEE standards
- Ability to populate power, instrument and communications cable schedules, including sizing conduits, wires and cables
- Ability to size and specify equipment such as PDPs, LV and MV MCCs, LV and MV switchgear, transformers, and associated overcurrent protection devices
- Ability to develop LV and MV single line and three-line diagrams, identifying/specifying all relaying devices and connections
- Experience performing power system studies (SKM Power Tools) for arc flash analysis, coordination studies, equipment evaluations, and recommending OCPD sizing and settings
- Experience laying out electrical rooms with required working clearances and access
- Experience working with bus duct manufacturers to design bus duct assemblies
- Ability to write contractor scope of work summary documents
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and relationship between drawings and specifications
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness
- Ability to manage time to meet project budget and schedule
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and engage in creative and critical thought
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and strong written and oral communication skills
- Presentation and interview skills preferred
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ideal experience with SKM Power Tools and/or electrical modeling software, Autodesk Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu
- Basic understanding of databases and data structures to manage large-data and tools such as Smart PID or other engineering databases
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer in multiple US states (such as MN, IL, WI, GA, MI, TN, MO, IA) and at least one Canadian Province preferred, with willingness to obtain additional licensure as needed
- This position will require domestic and possible international travel
