About the role

  • Design and operate scalable batch and real-time data systems
  • Create and maintain trusted data models to power analytics, experimentation, and AI agent development
  • Build and operate pipelines that deliver high-quality, reliable data to all areas of the business
  • Ensure business teams have access to reliable data to drive insight and innovation
  • Influence how data is captured, governed, and leveraged across Sierra to enable decision-making at scale
  • Partner with engineering, product, ML, analytics, and GTM teams to shape data strategy and infrastructure
  • Establish foundations of Sierra’s data ecosystem and drive standards for reliability and trust
  • Directly power next-generation AI-driven customer experiences through data engineering work

Requirements

  • Strong experience in data or analytics engineering with a track record of designing, building, and operating pipelines and systems at scale
  • Skilled in SQL and Python
  • Experience with distributed processing frameworks (e.g., Spark)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)
  • Deep knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, and designing schemas optimized for analytics, experimentation, and reporting
  • Understanding of validation, monitoring, compliance, and best practices for ensuring data integrity across pipelines
  • Passion for building trustworthy systems and customer obsession
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment and adaptability to evolving priorities
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to explain infrastructure and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to collaborate with product, ML, analytics, engineering, and GTM teams
  • Experience with modern data stack tools (dbt, Airflow/Dagster, AWS Glue, Athena, or equivalents) preferred
  • Exposure to large language models (LLMs), conversational AI, or agent-based systems preferred
  • Experience building or improving platforms for advanced analytics or experimentation preferred
  • Ability to work from San Francisco, CA (company is primarily in-person)
  • Authorization to work in the United States and clarification on visa sponsorship status (application asks these questions)
