About the role
- Report to the Senior Engineering Manager of the Recording Head Operations (RHO) Mechanical Research & Development group.
- Integrate emerging technology into new products to meet specific mechanical and reliability performance requirements.
- Collaborate with head design team, drive design team, and Far East production teams.
- Oversee the Head-Gimbal-Assembly (HGA) mechanical design and specifications, thermo-mechanical design migration plans, and customer support activities.
- Manage component and drive experiments, prototype and pre-production builds, component and drive performance, and communicate key findings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 12+ years of experience, or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 8+ years of experience, or Ph.D. and 5+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with the product core team, drive customers, Far East production sites, and internal functional groups on highly technical issues involving overall mechanical product design and performance.
- Strong background in mathematical, physical, and engineering analysis.
- Experience in data acquisition and time-series analysis, as well as optical and metrology methods such as LDV, thermal metrology, AFM, SEM, XPS, Raman, or Auger.
