About the role
- Responsible for the strategic direction, oversight, and hands-on management of all legal disputes and litigation matters arising from MiWay Claims department.
- Managing a portfolio of active legal claims.
- Driving an effective legal defense strategy.
- Ensuring compliance with civil procedure and regulatory frameworks.
- Controlling external legal spend.
- Mitigating legal risk and ensuring fair, legally sound outcomes.
Requirements
- LLB Degree (NQF Level 8)
- Must be an Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- Minimum 4 years' post-admission experience in a Law Practice.
- Expert knowledge of the litigation process in South Africa.
- In-depth technical understanding of the short-term insurance industry, policy wordings, and the South African regulatory landscape.
- Exceptional legal drafting, interpretation, negotiation, and mediation skills.
- Strong financial acumen relating to legal cost management, budgeting, and claims reserving.
- High-level communication and presentation skills, capable of explaining complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders.
- Advanced conflict resolution and escalated complaint handling skills, particularly those involving legal challenge.
