About the role
- Serve as Technical Manager, Lead and/or Advisor for regional projects of significance.
- Provide technical leadership on complex and/or strategic projects across the region, including development of engineering methodology, design criteria and value engineering.
- Assist with preparation of scope of work and fee proposals on complex projects.
- Assist Department Managers, Office Executives, and Regional Practice Leads on major pursuits including lending technical credibility/expertise to the pursuit team.
- Perform traffic operations analyses and prepare design deliverables with a high degree of quality consistent with contractual scope, schedule, and fee.
- Oversee development of traffic plan details and construction plans using industry standard software packages.
- Collaborate with Department Managers and Project Managers regarding technical resources for project staffing assignments and execution of complex technical tasks.
- Serve as a key technical resource interfacing with project clients.
- Monitor QA/QC procedures and client requirements for Quality in coordination with a project’s quality assurance team.
- Help develop technical execution and quality work standards, tools and Best Practices across the Great Lakes Region and facilitate implementation of practice improvement.
- Build and maintain effective relationships across Michael Baker offices, regions, and external organizations to advance technical excellence.
- Support growth within new markets for traffic engineering services, while also expanding services within current markets.
- Provide technical leadership in the specialty subject area of traffic engineering and serve in leadership for technical working groups.
- Provide leadership and direction by coaching, mentoring, and motivating staff on technical skills, scope and budget management, and quality assurance.
- Stay knowledgeable of industry trends, best practices, standards, and specifications and maintain awareness of technical developments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
- Minimum 15+ years of traffic engineering related design including 5+ years of technical management experience is required.
- Must possess a valid Professional Engineering License with the ability to receive reciprocity in all of the following states (PA, WV, OH, KY, MI, MN, WI, IL, IA, and IN).
- Prior experience as Traffic Task Lead on design build projects is desired.
- Have the skills to perform quality control oversight responsibilities, including understanding of prevailing technical design and constructability requirements and risk management skills.
- Solid communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to leverage existing connections and client relationships to help identify and/or win new traffic engineering work.
- Ability to effectively network and influence the traffic engineering industry.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to adhering to scope, schedules and budgets.
- Ability to effectively work in a primarily teleworking environment with teams throughout the region.
- Strong background in ownership, initiative and dedication to high quality engineering services.
